WESTFIELD, Iowa | The former Westfield city clerk was arrested Wednesday after Plymouth County authorities investigated a complaint of a misappropriation of city funds.

Angela Lynn Sorensen, 48, of Westfield, has been charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony. A court document accuses her of using $8,972 from a city fundraising account to buy personal items. The document said Sorensen was in control of the account that had money raised for a public park and T-ball complex at the Peoples Bank in Akron, Iowa.

Westfield Mayor Mike Tadlock contacted the sheriff's office on Sept. 7 after officials discovered the funds were missing, a press release said.

A warrant had been issued for Sorensen last week. She was arrested Wednesday in Le Mars. After appearing before a judge, she was released on $5,000 bond.

Tadlock said Sorensen resigned in August. The city has since hired a new clerk.

Westfield, located 21 miles northwest of Sioux City, has a population of 131.
