DAKOTA CITY | An Iowa woman is accused of stealing $67,000 from a Dakota City welding shop. She's been charged with 20 counts of theft.
Rebecca Bottjen, 35, of Osage, made her first court appearance Friday in Dakota County Court. She's charged with 20 counts of unlawful taking. All are felonies.
Bottjen's accused of stealing about $67,274 from her former employer, New Ideas Fabrication, according to court documents.
Dakota County Sheriff's Investigator D.W. Johnson said in an arrest affidavit that Bottjen, the company's bookkeeper, wrote checks to herself and transferred money out of the company's accounts without authorization.
The alleged thefts took place from October 2010 to this February.
A man who answered the phone at New Ideas Fabrication on Friday confirmed Bottjen was no longer an employee. He declined to comment on the allegations.
Bottjen's next court appearance is Nov. 15.
