SIOUX CITY | A Sioux City man who led police on a car chase through city neighborhoods was placed on probation Wednesday.
Derick Alexander, 29, pleaded guilty in Woodbury County District Court to operating without owner's consent and eluding and possession of a controlled substance -- third offense in a separate case.
District Judge Steven Andreasen suspended a nine-year prison sentence and placed Alexander on three years probation.
Alexander was driving a stolen white Pontiac with paper dealer plates on May 11 in the 1900 block of Floyd Boulevard when an officer attempted to stop the vehicle. Alexander then sped though residential areas at speeds of up to 70 mph before the car went into the front lawn of a home near 35th Street and Pawnee Place.
Alexander fled on foot, but was apprehended after a short chase.
He had been in possession of marijuana during a May 3 arrest.
