ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- An Orange City man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for having sexual contact with and taking nude photos of a young girl.
Scott McAdam, 56, had pleaded guilty in February to lascivious acts with a child and sexual exploitation of a child.
As part of a plea agreement, it was up to the sentencing judge to determine if the 10-year prison sentences contained in each charge would be served concurrently -- at the same time -- or consecutively -- back to back for a 20-year sentence.
At Monday's sentencing hearing in Sioux County District Court, District Judge Jeffrey Poulson ordered that the sentences be served consecutively.
Once McAdam completes his prison sentence, he will be required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life. He will also serve a special sex offender sentence in which he will be on lifetime parole. If he were to violate terms of the special sentence, he could be returned to prison.
McAdam admitted during last month's plea hearing that from May 1 to Aug. 1 he had inappropriate contact with a girl who was under age 14. He also admitted to taking nude photos of her with his cellphone between Jan. 1, 2015 and Nov. 14.
In exchange for McAdam's guilty plea, 20 other sex-related charges filed against him were dismissed.
