SLOAN, Iowa | A semitrailer tractor burst into flames and was completely incinerated Friday night on interstate 29 near the Sloan exit, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The tractor, which wasn't hauling a trailer, was northbound on Interstate 29 and caught fire shortly after 9 p.m., said Kent Roepke, a deputy with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office.
When police and fire rescue teams arrived on the scene, the truck was on the side of the road on the northbound on-ramp for the Sloan exit and the driver had escaped safely, Roepke said. The ramp was closed for about 90 minutes, he said.
“The tractor was fully engulfed in flames,” he said. “It was a total loss.”
The cause of the fire is unknown, though the driver thought it could have been electrical, Roepke said. The fire is not being investigated.
