SIOUX CITY | A woman who was arrested Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery Saturday was an employee at the bank and allegedly conspired with a friend to stage the robbery, court documents reveal.

Heaven Leigh Anjeail Zevenbergen, 18, of Sioux City, was a clerk at Security National Bank's branch at Hy-Vee, at 2827 Hamilton Blvd. Her friend and the second suspect, Angelica Perez, 18, allegedly arrived at the bank on Saturday wearing a disguise and warned Zevenbergen via a note that she was armed, documents say.

Zevenbergen then gave Perez $10,000 from the bank, the documents said.

Zevenbergen admitted that she staged the robbery. She has been charged with theft in the second degree, a class D felony.

Perez was arrested on Wednesday and posted bail Thursday morning, according to an official with the Woodbury County Jail. Zevenbergen remains in the Woodbury County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Dave Holub, senior vice president of Security National Bank, said in a statement Zevenbergen had been fired prior to her arrest for violation of bank policy not related to the robbery.

"Security Bank will continue to cooperate with the Sioux City Police Department as this is still an open and ongoing investigation," Holub said in the statement.
