SIOUX CITY | A Sioux City man accused of shooting his two dogs in Morningside has pleaded not guilty.
Jon Holloway, 57, was charged with reckless use of a firearm and discharging a gun within city limits. Both are misdemeanors.
Police accused Holloway of fatally shooting his two Labrador retrievers with a .17-caliber rifle in the backyard of his home on South Cornelia Street.
Authorities haven’t said what reason Holloway had for allegedly shooting his dogs.
Holloway was also arrested on two charges of animal abuse. A judge dismissed those charges.
Prosecutors say the section of Iowa Code cited in the charging documents was incorrect. They are determining whether to refile charges.
Holloway’s trial is April 24.
