SIOUX CITY | A Sioux City man has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a police chase through Sioux City's west side.

Timothy Mercer, 22, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday and filed a written plea of not guilty in Woodbury County District Court.

Formal charges have yet to be filed against Mercer. He was arrested Oct. 31 on charges of eluding, third-offense operating while intoxicated, assault on a police officer, driving while license barred and numerous traffic violations.

According to court documents, Mercer sped away from an officer who attempted to stop him near West Fourth Street and Hamilton Boulevard. Mercer led officers on a chase at speeds exceeding 90 mph onto Riverside Boulevard and through a residential neighborhood before police brought his pickup truck to a stop after he attempted to collide head-on with a police car.

According to court documents, tests showed Mercer had a blood-alcohol content of 0.114 percent, above Iowa's legal limit of 0.08 percent.
