SIOUX CITY | Not quite two months since being sentenced to seven years in prison for shooting his three-year-old sister in the face with a BB gun, a Sioux City teenager has been released from custody and placed on probation.

Adrian White, 18, pleaded guilty Sept. 11 in Woodbury County District Court to single counts of assault causing serious injury and child endangerment and was sentenced to prison.

District Judge Steven Andreasen on Tuesday reconsidered Adrian White's sentence and suspended the remainder of White's prison term. White was placed on three years probation.

White shot his sister twice while playing with a BB gun May 17 at a home in the 400 block of West Third Street.

One BB fractured the girl's jaw and the other BB entered her eye and lodged next to her brain. One BB was surgically removed, but the one near her brain was left in place because doctors considered the surgery too risky, court documents said.
