STORM LAKE, Iowa -- A Storm Lake man has been charged with a class B ongoing criminal conduct as well as three class D felony counts of forgery in reference to the theft of personal checks.

Storm Lake Police were dispatched Saturday morning to 118 Oneida St. They were informed that several personal checks were stolen at this residence on April 10, and two checks had been forged and cashed in Storm Lake on April 11 and 12.

While police were taking this report, they were dispatched at Citizen 1st National Bank, 1821 N. Lake Ave., where a person was allegedly forging and cashing a third check from the Oneida Street address. 

Responding officers were advised that the suspect was identified as Shane Meyer, 37, and he had left the bank, walking southbound.

Police subsequently found Meyer at the Budget Inn Motel, 1504 N. Lake Ave., arresting him as well as Lindsey Mortensen, 36, of Storm Lake. Mortensen was discovered to be in possession of a stolen credit card from the Oneida St. residence.

Mortensen was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and charged with possession of stolen property and violating a no contact order (both simple misdemeanors).

In addition to the felony charges, Meyer was charged with violating a no contact order. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was being held without bond.
