STORM LAKE, Iowa | A Washta, Iowa, man was arrested following a traffic stop Friday after a Storm Lake Police officer alleged he had an unloaded handgun behind his driver's seat and an unloaded AR-15 rifle with a magazine and ammunition in the back seat of his vehicle.

During the investigation, investigators determined that Cody Ray, 32, was a defendant in a current order of protection issued out of Cherokee County, Iowa, which prohibited him from possessing weapons.

Ray was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (class D felony); and carrying weapons (aggravated misdemeanor).

Ray was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 bond and both weapons were seized.
