WASHINGTON, D.C. | The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska will receive more than $1 million in federal grants for crime victim assistance and violence against women programs.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Tuesday the awarding to the tribe of a $634,058 grant for the Violence Against Women Tribal Governments Program and a $375,379 grant for the Comprehensive Tribal Victim Assistance Program.

The awards were among $130 million in Department of Justice grants to support programs in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska will receive an $889,720 grant, and the Santee Sioux Nation of Nebraska will receive $889,472 in grants.
