SIOUX FALLS | A Yankton, South Dakota, man was sentenced Monday to four years in federal prison for robbing a Yankton bank.
David Giese, 26, had pleaded guilty in August in U.S. District Court in Sioux Falls to one count of bank robbery.
U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier ordered Giese to serve four years on supervised release after he completes his prison sentence. Giese also was ordered to pay $6,900 in restitution to Wells Fargo bank.
Giese walked into the bank at 200 Cedar St. on July 26, 2016, while holding a package and demanded money, claiming that the package was an explosive device. The package was later found to not be an explosive. Police said no other weapon was used during the robbery.
