SIOUX CITY | Twenty long-forgotten Civil War veterans from Sioux City were remembered Saturday at a ceremony in Floyd Cemetery.
Members of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, dressed in Civil War-era military attire, rededicated the graves, which, for reasons unknown, had remained unmarked for so many years.
Gleaming white headstones were recently laid at the graves in the cemetery's Grand Army of the Republic Section.
Through a search of cemetery records and research by West High School students, the veterans in the unmarked graves were identified. Some of the students' findings was shared during Saturday's ceremony.
