SIOUX CITY — Tournament organizers say Sioux City’s latest round of inclement weather won’t impact the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II Women's Basketball Championship.
From Monday to late Tuesday morning, the metro had been pelted with 3 to 4 inches of snow and was under a National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m.
However, despite that challenge, 31 of the 32 teams competing in the NAIA safely made it to town with the exception of Valley City State of North Dakota.
“We expect everybody to be here; we just know that Valley City State got hung up last night by Watertown (in South Dakota),” said Corey Westra, commissioner of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Westra also affirmed the tournament banquet was still scheduled for Tuesday evening.
The tournament's opening game tip-off is set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Tyson Events Center as No. 3 seed Indiana Tech takes on No. 6 seed Bryan College.
