SIOUX CITY | The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls said it felt like it was 104 degrees in Sioux City Thursday. 

Alex Ferguson, a meteorologist with the weather service, said the high peaked at 97 degrees. The last time Sioux City saw temperatures of 100 degrees or more was May 14, 2013.

Although it felt like triple digits as the heat index was 104. The heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature, according to the weatehr service.

A cold front was expected to move in the area Thursday night dropping temps into the 80s.

Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 85, the weather service said. On Saturday temperatures will be near 88 with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Sunday is expected to be sunny with a high near 91.
