SIOUX CITY | A Castana, Iowa, man has pleaded not guilty to having sex with a teenage girl against her will while she was babysitting.
Colby Mauch, 24, entered his written plea Monday in Woodbury County District Court to one count of third-degree sexual abuse.
According to court documents, on Sept. 3 Mauch traveled to the 17-year-old girl's Morningside home, where she was babysitting six children.
While the children were in the back yard, court documents said, Mauch grabbed the girl, started to kiss her and forcibly pulled her pants and underwear down and had sex with her.
The girl told a friend what had happened, and the friend notified a school resource officer, who told the victim's mother.
On Sept. 12, court documents said, Mauch texted the mother of the victim and apologized. The mother showed the texts to police, and an officer responded as if he was the mother. A text conversation began in which Mauch said he regretted his actions and admitted the victim was telling the truth.
Mauch was questioned on Oct. 6 and admitted to initiating and having sex with the victim. He claimed the sexual activity was consensual, court documents said.
