Janel M. (Preston) Cox, 65, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at a local hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Janel was born on Dec. 30, 1951, in Sioux City, to Harry and Nellie (Lawrey) Preston Sr. She graduated from Riverside High School. Janel enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and was a nurse stateside during the Vietnam War. She was honorably discharged in 1975.
Janel was a nurse at St. Vincent's and St. Joseph's Hospitals, and worked in direct care at Mid-Step Services. She also did home health care. She also sold Tupperware.
She enjoyed doing puzzles, and playing card, board, and phone games. Janel loved going night fishing. Family was very important to Janel, especially her grandkids.
Survivors include her children, Jean Fairbanks, Duston DeKok, and Judy (Donald) Hare, all of Sioux City; brothers, Mike (Mary) Preston, Jeff (Becky Valentine) Preston, both of Sioux City, and Joe Preston of Cherokee, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Janel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Andy, Stuart, and Jack; and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
