John Dalgliesh Olden, 60, of Chatsworth, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Burial was in Oakwood Memorial Cemetery, Chatsworth. Arrangements were under the direction of Gates, Kingsley and Gates West Valley Mortuary in Canoga Park, Calif.
John was born in Sioux City on Oct. 16, 1941. He graduated from Central High School, then served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego, Calf. He moved to California in the late 1960s, where he was employed in the retail grocery industry. For the past 18 years, he owned and operated, with his wife, Charlyne, the Country Squire Market in Chatsworth.
In 1992, he received numerous awards and commendations from the city and county of Los Angeles for his heroic role in the capture of a dangerous criminal.
He is survived by his wife, Charlyne (Mongillo) Olden, whom he married on Aug. 27, 1989; three daughters, Kim Murphy of Santa Clarita, Calif., Kathy LaBash of Canyon County, Calif., and Julie Karapetyan of Steven's Ranch, Calif.; five stepchildren, Dee Klenka of Dallas, Texas, John Mongillo of West Hills, Calif., Terri Klinker of Mahomet, Ill., Joni Warburton of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Vicki Sattler of Reseda, Calif.; two grandsons; 18 stepgrandchildren; a brother, Gerhig Dalgliesh of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and two sisters, Judy Lanning of Papillion, Neb., and Bobbie Pylelo of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Dalgliesh of Sioux City; a son, John Arthur Olden; and two infant sons, Travis Dean and Jeffrey Scott.
He will be missed dearly by all.
