LAKEWOOD, Calif. | Vivian Varvais Gaskins pased away suddenly Dec. 21, 2012, while visiting her daughter in North Carolina.

There will be a private graveside service at Rosehill Cemetery in Los Angeles Jan. 4, with a celebration of her life at a later date.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1936, to Harold and LaVerne Vervais of South Sioux City. Vivian graduated from South Sioux City High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jack N. Gaskins. They moved to Lakewood, Calif., where they raised their three children.

She is survived by her children, Jack (Darlene) Gaskins II of Visalia, Calif., Debra (Geoff) Brackeen of Ridgefield, Wash., and Alicia (Clovis) Tyndall of Yancyville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Rex (Marie) Varvais of Columbia, Tenn., and James (Toby) Varvais of South Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack (Dec. 19, 2011), brothers Dale, Charles and Tom, and her sister Barbara.
