SIOUX CITY | Who knew flipping a calendar page could bring such a welcome change to the weather?
After a hot, dry July, the weather forecast for the first week of August is shaping up to be much more favorable.
First, the region has two good shots at measurable rainfall approaching. The first system arrives Wednesday evening, the second on Friday night and into Saturday morning. Both systems are expected to produce widespread rainfall of at least half an inch, said Mike Gillispie, a hydrologist at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.
"If things come together, the entire area could be picking up an inch to an inch and a half (of rain)," Gillispie said.
Cooler temperatures also are on the way. High temperatures today and Wednesday should still be in the mid to upper 80s, Gillispie said, but then will cool into the mid 70s on Thursday through Sunday.
