IDA GROVE, Iowa | A forum featuring Republican candidates running for the U.S. Senate in Iowa is planned next month in Ida County, officials announced Wednesday.

The Republican Party in Ida, Cherokee and Sac counties has scheduled to event at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Ida Grove Skate Palace.

Candidates Joni Ernst, Sam Clovis, David Young, Matt Whitaker and Scott Schaben have said they plan to attend, organizers said. Paul Lunde, an attorney from Ames, has not confirmed.

Ida County Republican Party Chairwoman Rachel Raak Law said having the three counties cooperate will make for a good event for people to hear from the candidates.

"We're up for the challenge. It is great to get these guys," Raak Law said.

The format will be a forum rather than a debate. Questions will be asked of the candidates by those attending. But the questions will only go to one candidate, not to the full panel.

Iowa Republican Party State Central Committee Member Cody Hoefert will be moderator.

The six candidates participated in the first debate of the 2014 election cycle on Wednesday at Drake University in Des Moines.

A June primary will determine the Republican nominee. The sole Democrat running for the position is U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Waterloo. The winner will fill the position held by retiring U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

Ernst, a state senator from Red Oak, led all candidates in the latest round of campaign fundraising reports released earlier in October. Ernst brought in $252,000 for the quarter.
