Soloists Madeline Gude, a junior, and Sara Siebrecht, a senior, helped lead Sheldon High School's vocal jazz unit to its third straight Class 2A state title in the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships on Tuesday in West Des Moines.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa | Coach Brett Gregory and his Vocal Fusion group from Sheldon High School in Sheldon, Iowa, won a state title in vocal jazz among Class 2A groups that performed on Tuesday in West Des Moines.

The title is the school's third straight in vocal jazz.

Sheldon edged Maquoketa Valley, 131-129 in scoring from three judges. Sheldon rated first among eight choirs on two judges' scorecards, while finishing third on the third judges' scorecard.

Sibley-Ocheyedan finished in third place among Class 2A schools.

Riverside High School edged Akron-Westfield for the title in Class 1A, while West Sioux, the winner in five of the past six years, ended up in third place.

Solon High School's 5th Street Jazz group earned the crown in Class 3A, while A Slice of Jazz from Cedar Rapids Washington emerged as champion in Class 4A.
