SIOUX CITY | A Sioux City man was arrested Thursday and charged with taking part in a June assault that left the victim in a coma.
Benjamin Gallaugher, 20, is charged with one count of willful injury causing serious injury.
According to court documents, Gallaugher and seven others assaulted Bradley Coan, 22, of Waterbury, Nebraska, at about 10:30 p.m. June 22 in the 700 block of Riverside Drive. Police said that the group beat Coan with poles resembling those found on a chain-link fence. They also kicked him and hit him with their fists.
Coan had to be induced into a coma because of serious brain injuries, court documents said.
Sioux City police Lt. Pat McCann said the incident remains under investigation.
