SIOUX CITY | North High, Le Mars Community, Okoboji and Newell-Fonda claimed top honors on Wednesday at the 43rd Annual Morningside College Jazz Festival held in Eppley Auditorium.
North High Jazz 1, led by outstanding soloists Trina Swanson and Dylan Nelson, earned the Class 4A title over Omaha Westside Jazz 1 (second place) and East High Jazz 1 (third place), as well as the Class 3A/4A traveling trophy.
Mitchell High School finished second place in Class 3A behind Le Mars Community. Storm Lake High School, paced by outstanding soloist Jake Luedtke, was third.
Okoboji High School took home the Class 1A/2A traveling trophy, edging second-place Alta-Aurelia and Sibley-Ocheyedan, which finished third in Class 2A.
The Class 2A outstanding soloist award went to Michael Swanson of Alta-Aurelia, a unit that has won the last three state titles in Class 2A.
Zach Hecht of Newell-Fonda High School earned outstanding soloist laurels in leading his Mustangs to the Class 1A title. Woodbury Central was the runner-up, while South O'Brien High School finished third.
