SIOUX CITY | A man died from injuries in a Monday three-vehicle collision in Sioux County in Northwest Iowa.
The Sioux County Sheriff in a release said Cornelius Van Zanten, 89, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died of injuries sustained in the collision. The wreck occurred just before 4 p.m. Monday at the Fig Avenue and 305th Street intersection, east of Rock Valley.
The release said Zachary Van Den Top, 20, of Hull was driving southbound on Fig Avenue, and Albert Van Zanten, 84, of Rock Valley, was driving westbound on 305th Street. The sheriff's office said Van Den Top did not stop at the intersection stop sign and collided with Van Zanten's vehicle.
Albert Van Zanten's pickup was forced by the impact into another vehicle, a refrigerated food truck driven eastbound on 305th Street by Jerry Gladis, 37, of Brandon, South Dakota.
Albert Van Zanten's pickup sustained $25,000 in damage. He, Donald Postma, 83, of Rock Valley, and Cornelius Van Zanten were taken by ambulance to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Cornelius Van Zanten was a passenger in the back seat, and died from injuries from the wreck.
The collision remains under investigation.
