STORM LAKE, Iowa | A Storm Lake man faces up to two years in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years after a jury found him guilty of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.
Jose Guerra-Flores, 33, will be sentenced June 19, a release from the Buena Vista County Attorney's Office said. Guerra-Flores also faces up to $6,250 in fines.
A Buena Vista County District Court jury on Thursday found him guilty of the aggravated misdemeanor. He was originally charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, and first-degree burglary, a class B felony.
The jury found Guerra-Flores guilty of the lesser charge after a three-day trial, the release said.
He was arrested in August after police said he entered an ex-girlfriend's home through an unlocked back door and sexually assaulted her in her bedroom.
