SLOAN, Iowa | Two Kingsley, Iowa, residents were hospitalized after their SUV overturned on Interstate 29 Friday evening.

Josephine McConnell, 77, and Max McConnell, 79, were traveling northbound near Sloan, according to Iowa State troopers.

At around 6:45 p.m., authorities said, Josephine McConnell fell asleep while driving, then lost control after overcorrecting. The vehicle drove off the west shoulder of the road and rolled before coming to a stop upright in a ditch.

Both occupants were injured, authorities said. Josephine McConnell was taken by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center - Sioux City. She was listed in fair condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Max McConnell was taken by ambulance to Mercy. His status was unavailable.

Authorities said both occupants were wearing their seatbelts. -- Mike Bell
