SIOUX CITY | After about two hours of protesting in front of City Hall and East High School on Monday, members of Westboro Baptist Church packed their signs into their portable bags and headed out of town.

Counterprotesters cheered as the Topeka, Kan-based church members left, but nothing more than words were exchanged Monday afternoon.

Sioux City police officers kept the peace and directed traffic as the protests continued, frequently helping the counterprotesters cross the street to pose for pictures in front of the Westboro demonstration.
