Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you;

Jeremiah 1:5

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalms 139:13

I had a totally different column in mind for this week, but there was a more important issue tugging at my heart. The newly released videos from the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) showing Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s senior medical director, casually discussing how to complete an abortion while preserving certain organs which would then be sold were very disturbing. She talked as if she were discussing how to fillet a fish or debone a chicken for cooking, but instead she was talking about crushing parts of the baby to preserve other organs which would then be sold.

I find these comments by Dr. Nucatola baffling: “I’d say a lot of people want liver. And for that reason, most providers will do this case under ultrasound guidance, so they’ll know where they’re putting their forceps.” They reject the right of mothers to have ultrasounds before agreeing to an abortion, but they use ultrasounds for their own financial benefit. If this had been a discussion of puppy parts, you can believe PETA would be having marches in Washington, D.C., and in every major city to stop this practice.

Providing taxpayer funding to an organization engaged in unconscionable behavior is beyond indecency.

"Planned Parenthood must be stripped of its government funding," according to Concerned Women for America. "Planned Parenthood received $528 million in 2014 and performed 327,653 abortions. These abortions make up nearly 94 percent of their pregnancy services. Prenatal care accounted  for only five percent of Planned Parenthood services.”

How can America be a champion for human rights across the world stage when we treat animals better and with more respect than our human unborn babies? We have been denying our most vulnerable the basic human right, life itself.

If anyone has held a newborn baby in their arms, they can see this life is a miracle. Since we all began our journey at conception, how can you draw the line anywhere in that nine-month period of when we become a person? At conception, we have all our DNA which is the mapping of our essence. No human being has come into existence in any other way than the joining of an egg and a sperm. At five weeks the heart begins to beat and at 12 weeks the baby’s fingers, toes, eyelids and ears are formed. Does a baby at 12 weeks deserve protection and should it be given personhood?

John Adams said: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." Are we a moral people? Moral people have a moral compass that tells them when their freedom needs to be restrained because of the negative impact it has on society. Has women’s sexual freedom risen to such a level that it is honored over the life of a human baby? Are we a civil society if we allow an industry to sell aborted baby parts? No scientific experimentation is worth this atrocity.

Planned Parenthood is not a benign organization wanting to ensure women’s health. It exists to bring death to unborn babies. They are in the business of making money through the misfortune of vulnerable girls facing an expected pregnancy. The money that has been given in the past to Planned Parenthood can be routed to the community health centers who already served a similar population. The videos of CMP show the callous culture of Planned Parenthood and they can sugarcoat it no more with the façade they are a provider of women’s health.

If this behavior bothers you, as it does me, then it is time to demand that Congress stop the funding currently going to Planned Parenthood. Representative Diane Black, R-Tenn., introduced a bill - HR3134, called the Defund Planned Parenthood Act - which has bipartisan support. It would put a one-year moratorium on Planned Parenthood funding during which time Congress would investigate what these CMP videos have shown is happening under the guise of providing women's health care.

During August, our congressmen and women will be home on vacation. Let them know how you feel about Planned Parenthood selling fetal tissue and body parts.
