SIOUX CITY | Police on Friday were investigating a report of a kidnapping that involved someone selling a vehicle in Union County, an official said Friday.

Union County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Bucholz said someone Friday morning approached a resident who was selling a vehicle at a home. They went on a test drive and the driver crashed the vehicle, Bucholz said.

They returned to the seller’s home and the driver took the seller hostage, Bucholz said. The driver left the scene with the seller in a sport-utility vehicle with Minnesota plates that had been reported stolen, Bucholz said.

The car seller was let out outside Sioux City about 9:30 a.m. Friday, Bucholz said.

Officials have not released the name of the victim or where he lived. Information about the driver was not immediately available.

The SUV was seen driving north on Hamilton Boulevard. It was described as a copper Chevy Suburban with Minnesota plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 605-356-2679.
