LE MARS, Iowa | Two people were injured early Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision in rural Plymouth County.
At 6:50 a.m., Teresa Nelson, 59, of Sioux City, was driving west in a Kia SUV on Iowa Highway 3 and ran a stop sign at the intersection of County Road K-22 about eight miles west of Le Mars. Nelson's vehicle was struck broadside by Randall Kruid, 58, of Hawarden, Iowa, who was southbound in a truck hauling gravel, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Both vehicles overturned and came to rest in the west ditch along the highway.
The state patrol said that both Nelson and Kruid were taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Nelson, who was alone in the vehicle, was in critical condition, and Kruid was in serious condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
