OMAHA | Two former Omaha Tribe of Nebraska officials pleaded not guilty Monday to federal charges of misusing the Macy, Neb., tribe's money.

Amen Sheridan and Julia Whiteskunk, both 53, of Walthill, Neb., are charged in U.S. District Court in Omaha with two counts each of theft of Indian tribal funds.

Sheridan is a former tribal chairman. Whiteskunk was the executive director of the Omaha Tribal Housing Authority.

According to court documents, the two illegally used $4,000 in Housing Authority funds as a down payment on a house they bought together in 2009.

The two also are accused of moving more than $50,000 in restricted housing funds into another account from which Sheridan was issued a $30,000 check.
