VERMILLION, S.D. -- Daniel Ruring, 40, of Vermillion died Friday, April 30, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident.

Daniel was born Nov. 16, 1969, in Climbing Hill, Iowa, to Michael and Virginia (Taylor-Red Elk) Ruring. He attended grade school in Whiting, Iowa, and graduated from Job Corps in Denison, Iowa. Daniel served in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm.

He married Cheryl Vasek on April 6, 2001, in Sioux City, Iowa. He had worked at Gateway Company for 15 years. For the last six years, he was employed as a service technician for Securus Techologies out of Dallas, Texas.

Daniel was an assistant troop leader for Boy Scout Troop No. 66 in Vermillion.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Vermillion; his mother, Virginia (Gary) Taylor-Red Elk of Big Fork, Mont.; three daughters, Jessica, Rachael and Tiffany, all of Vermillion; two stepsons, Joshua Svoboda of Omaha, Neb., and Koty Suing of Vermillion; and a brother, John (Dusti) Ruring of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Claude and Shirley Ruring, Clifford and Gilberta Taylor; and two uncles, Clarence "Zach" and Gordon.
