SOLDIER, Iowa | Thomas D. "Tom" Harris, 57, of Soldier died suddenly Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at his home in Soldier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Moorhead Christian Church in Moorhead, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine, Iowa.
Tom was born Dec. 14, 1955, to Maynard and Joyce (Loomis) Harris in Onawa, Iowa. He grew up east of Moorhead and graduated from East Monona High School in 1974.
Tom married Deb Hull on June 14, 1974. To this union three children were born, Rick, an infant daughter who died at birth and Casey. They made their home in Moorhead. Tom worked at various jobs over the years including at the Moorhead Coop, for Raymond Severson, for Terry Swain putting up bins, Crop Production Services (CPS) and owned and operated Harris Trucking and farming the family farm. On March 27, 2010, Tom married Sandra Lee Olson at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. The couple made their home in Soldier, Iowa.
Tom was baptized at First Christian Church in Moorhead. He enjoyed Harleys, trucking and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tom was a fanatic at keeping his vehicles and property clean and neat. He even always wore gloves to help keep his hands clean. He was currently restoring a 1980 Chevy pickup. He absolutely loved to be with his grandchildren, teasing them and letting them have ice cream at any time of the day. He was very proud of farming the Harris Family Century Farm.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Harris of Soldier; two children, Rick (Heather) Harris of Dunlap, Iowa, their daughters, Reagan and Hannah; and Casey (Todd) Pape of Pisgah, Iowa, their sons, Tucker and Tate; his mother, Joyce Harris of Moorhead; three stepdaughters, Stacy (Nick) Brandon of Soldier, her daughter, Cady Helton; Carly (Bob) Snider of Omaha, their daughter, Kherington; and Marcy Olson and fiancé, Nick Melby of Dunlap, Iowa, his daughter, Abby; three siblings, Steve Harris and special friend, Denise Beneda of Moorhead, Joan (Kevin) Swenson of Soldier, and David (Shon) Harris of San Antonio, Texas; mother-in-law, LaVirta Lee of Soldier; brother-in-law, Dennis (Nudcha) Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Vicky Lee of Seattle, Wash.; and many other relatives and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 25, 2011; his infant daughter on Sept. 8, 1978; and his father-in-law, Kenneth Lee.
