PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The Labor Department said South Dakota's unemployment rate was 4.8 percent in February, up from 4.7 percent in January but down from the 5.2 percent rate in February 2010.
Labor Secretary Pam Roberts said the state added 4,600 jobs in the past year, compared to a loss of 8,300 in the 12 months preceding February 2010.
She said private-sector jobs were added in educational and health services, manufacturing, retail trade, and professional and business services.
The nation's jobless rate in February was 8.9 percent.
