I want to salute the 150-plus members of our Sioux City Mayor's Youth Commission, who represent our public and private community high schools, for their contribution of over 4,000 hours of volunteer service to a wide variety of community groups and activities.
They also help recruit and train members of the Young Ambassadors, who come from our community middle and elementary schools. The guidance of adult advisors recruited by Siouxland CARES assures that the students receive guidance and training to carry out their work. It is a credit to the MYC that they participate in compliance checks to discourage the selling of alcohol to underage youth. Since 2000, the MYC has co-hosted and developed questions for their panelist to pose at the League of Women Voters of Sioux City and MYC School Board Candidates' Forums/Debates. In addition, they always provide timers and greeters for those events.
I wish to thank all the adult advisors and the Sioux City Council for their continued support of our youth and highly commend the 150-plus Mayor's Youth Commission members for all they do to make Siouxland a better place. - Carolyn Goodwin, Sioux City
