The Russians use any means they can to increase the divisions within our society. They feed anger in any way they can to undermine us as a nation. Most of the time they don’t care about sides and feed anger on the left, right and center on any issue where there is division.
The thing they hate most is when we come together, compromise and strengthen our nation and society. The House and Senate did come together and agreed that the Russians are working to undermine our society, just as I have described, and passed sanctions on Russia by large majorities in both the House and Senate.
The intelligence community, including President Trump appointees, continues to agree that Russian interference and misinformation is ongoing. President Trump hasn’t imposed the sanctions and because he hasn’t, we can’t move to protect ourselves by putting enough pressure on Russia so that the costs of their interference outweighs the benefits.
We have to be willing to admit, no matter our differences on political issues, that it is wrong to allow the Russians to feed division and anger within our nation.
We have to get to the point across the political divide of acceptance that the Russians are engaged in an act of cyberwarfare against our nation, rather than allowing the pretense to continue that this is just another partisan political issue that, guess what, can be simply used by them once again to successfully increase the divide between us. - Jerry Eaton, Sioux City
