On Tuesday, a 10-year-old child was hit crossing Main Street from the Hinton Community School. I had to, for my own curiosity, watch as the school was let out the next day. It absolutely amazed me that the students who have vehicles still managed to exit the school parking lot without any thought to the possible unfortunate events that their actions - speeding, screeching wheels and texting (yes, where I live, I can see down into the vehicles to see texting is an obvious pastime for those leaving the school) - can lead to, and I didn't see one authority figure in sight to monitor the regular reckless ritual.
I pray that no other child incurs injuries because these students still haven't learned a thing.
Just to be fair, this applies to the other vehicles speeding down Main Street, too. - Sandra Egdorf, Hinton, Iowa
