Kudos to South Dakota Sen. John Thune who, when interviewed about what Americans should do about gun violence, eschewed the usual NRA talking points, reached deep inside himself, and coughed up a new answer: Americans must learn to protect themselves from the inevitabilities of living in a free society like ours. They have to learn to make themselves "small" - become smaller targets.
Apparently, Mr. Thune has forgotten about 20 six-year-olds who didn't have to do that. They were already small.
Creative answer, Mr. Thune, but America doesn't need any more puppets. We need real answers. - Karen Heidman, Sioux City
