HAWARDEN, Iowa | Jake Lynott rushed 19 times for 254 yards and three touchdowns while leading top-ranked West Sioux to Friday night’s 54-12 Class 11A quarterfinal rout over West Hancock.
En route to topping 50 points for the eighth time this season, West Sioux (11-0) exploded for 542 yards total offense. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers completed 6 of 12 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, one to Jake Lynott (2 catches, 75 yards) and a 55-yarder to Kade Lynott.
Zach Hulshof paced the Falcons’ defense with six solo tackles and 15 tackle assists. Chase Koopmans added nine solo tackles and nine tackle assists.
Jake Lynott opened the game with a 64-yard punt return touchdown for a squad that will face Council Bluffs St. Albert (10-1) in a semifinal game that will begin at 1:06 Friday afternoon.
It will be the first-ever semifinal game for West Sioux. In fact, it's a rematch from a quarterfinal a year ago as St. Albert posted a 21-14 quarterfinal win at Council Bluffs.
BATTLE CREEK 24, PONCA 20: No. 6 Battle Creek toppled No. 2 Ponca to advance to the semifinals in C2. Stone Kraft caught a 27-yard touchdown from Ty Heimes to give the Braves the lead in the fourth quarter. Battle Creek outscored the Indians 14-0 in the fourth quarter.
Heimes threw for 99 yards and Kraft had three catches for 47 yards. Weston Johnson finished with 14 carries for 68 yards. Carter Kingsbury had a 72-yard interception return in the third quarter to give Ponca a 20-10 lead.
