MAPLETON, Iowa | Woodbury Central’s Carter Schultzen connected with senior classmate Nick Phelps on an 85-yard TD pass on the first play of scrimmage to set a big-play tone for Woodbury Central in a 34-7 victory over MVAOCOU in Class A District I action at Mapleton on Friday night.

On the following possession, Schultzen completed a 73-yard TD pass to classmate Blake Erdmann to put the Wildcats up 13-0.

Woodbury Central extended the lead with a pair of long touchdowns in the second quarter. The first was a pass from Schultzen to senior Brandon Stender covering 50 yards. The visitor’s final score of the first half came on a 35-yard Erdmann run which was followed by a Nick Phelps kick for a 27-0 advantage at intermission.

Erdmann would increase the Woodbury Central lead to 34-0 with a touchdown sprint in the fourth quarter.

Rams QB Ely Fundermann reached the end zone on a 57-yard run, then added the point after kick for the final margin.

Fundermann finished the game with 231 yards rushing for a Rams offense that recorded 17 first downs.

Ryan Paulsrud contributed an interception for the Rams, who fell to 0-6 on the season.

Phelps booted a 70-yard punt for the Wildcats giving him punts of 81, 69 and 70 yards in the past three weeks.

Schultzen completed 5 of 7 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats. Erdmann rushed for 113 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns as Woodbury Central evened its mark at 3-3 on the season, 2-2 in Class A District I competition.

WESTERN CHRISTIAN 42, OKOBOJI 6: Caleb Harmsen passed for 215 yards and three touchdowns to lead the No. 5 Wolfpack to a win over the Pioneers in a Class 1A District 1 game played in Hull. Iowa Friday.

Harmsen hooked up three times with Carter Kooi for touchdowns and also ran for two scores as Western Christian moved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in District.

Travis Solsma also returned a kick off 80 yards for a touchdown late in the first half after the Pioneers (2-4 overall and 0-4 District) had scored on a 24-yard pass from Jacob Allen to Chris Halbur.

STORM LAKE 28, LE MARS 0: Brayden Hoops scored three rushing touchdowns to give the Tornadoes a Class 3A District 1 win over the Bulldogs in a game played in Le Mars, Iowa Friday.

The scores gave Hoops 11 rushing touchdowns this season to go along with a TD reception.

Kevin Duque also hit Mure Werge for a 69-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as Storm Lake improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in District.

Le Mars (1-5 overall and 0-4 District) suffered its second straight.

SHELDON 47, ESTHERVILLE-LINCOLN CENTRAL 13: Jaden Kleinhesselink passed for five touchdowns to lead the Orabs to a win over the Midgets in a Class 2A District 1 Sheldon, Iowa Friday.

Kleinhesselink passed four times to Philip Cain for touchdowns in the first quarter, including a 91-yard strike. He also added a 24-yard TD pass for Tyler Lode and a three-yard run in the third quarter for Sheldon (5-1 overall and 3-1 District).

Evan Olesen passed for two touchdowns for E-LC (1-5 overall and 0-4 District) hitting Briar Rowley and Bennett Loock for scores.

BISHOP GARRIGAN 35, SOUTH O’BRIEN 0: Drew Bacha ran for 78 yards and three touchdowns as the fourth-ranked (A) Bishop Garrigan football team defeated South O’Brien 35-0 on Friday in Paullina.

Bacha had 11 carries and scored on runs of 11, 13 and 36 yards for Garrigan (6-0).

South O’Brien drops to 0-6.

KINGSLEY-PIERSON 69, HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN 0: Preston Pfaffle had 10 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown as the Kingsley-Pierson football team defeated Heartland Christian 69-0 on Friday in Kingsley.

Pfaffle scored on a 5-yard touchdown run for Kingsley-Pierson (4-2). Cam Bainbridge had three carries for 44 yards and scored on a 14-yard run, while also completing a 23-yard touchdown pass. Lee Phelan, Jessen Reinking and Dustin Plendl each scored two touchdowns.

Heartland Christian falls to 0-1 on the season.

REMSEN ST. MARY’S 27, GTRA 24: Canaan Cox ran for 119 yards on 26 carries as the second-ranked (8-man) Remsen St. Mary’s football team rallied to defeat seventh-ranked Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 27-24 on Friday in Remsen.

Carter Kuchel caught six passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns for St. Mary’s (6-0).

GTRA (3-2) had 197 rushing yards.

SPIRIT LAKE 38, HUMBOLDT 14: Alex Van Dyke pulled down three passes from Nicholas Christensen for touchdowns and the Indians rolled past the Wildcats in a Class 3A District 1 game played in Humboldt, Iowa Friday.

Van Dyke hauled in six passes for 83 yards while Christensen was 18-for-26 for 238 yards through the air. Ben Newman and Gavin Harms also scored rushing touchdowns for the Indians (5-1 overall and 3-1 District). Spirit Lake led 38-0 at the half.

DENISON-SCHLESWIG 14, ADEL-DESOTO-MINDEN 13: Luke Staley scored on a one-yard run with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Monarchs a win over the Tigers in a Class 3A District 7 game played in Adel, Iowa Friday.

Denison-Schleswig (4-2 overall and 3-1 District) also got a two-yard TD run from Staley in the third quarter to tie the game at 7-7.

Matt West scored on a quarterback keeper from three yards out early in the fourth quarter to give ADM a 13-7 but failed to convert the PAT kick attempt.

West also threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Gavin O'Steen in the second quarter to give ADM (1-5 overall and 0-4 District) a 7-0 lead the the half.

ALTA-AURELIA 30, SIBLEY-OCHEYEDAN 6: Kaleb Sleezer rushed for 251 yards and scored a touchdown to lead the Warriors to a win over the Generals in a Class 1A District 1 game played in Alta, Iowa Friday.

The win was the first in four District game for Alta-Aurelia (2-4 overall). Gage Noyes scored a touchdown for Sibley-Ocheyedan (1-5 overall and 1-3 District).

SIOUX CENTER 21, MOC-FLOYD VALLEY 13: Cade Bleeker threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns as the fifth-ranked (2A) Sioux Center football team defeated MOC-Floyd Valley 21-13 on Friday in Orange City.

Braden Jahn caught four passes for 146 yards including a 31-yard touchdown reception for Sioux Center (6-0).

Gage Fisher ran for 80 yards for MOC-Floyd Valley (2-4).

MOC-Floyd Valley had the ball with under a minute left in the game, but Charlie Dykshorn intercepted a pass on the first play to seal the game for Sioux Center.

EMMETSBURG 34, UNITY CHRISTIAN 8: Corbin Saathoff rushed for 170 yards and scored a touchdown to lead the E-Hawks past the Knights in a Class 1A District 1 game played in Emmetsburg, Iowa Friday.

Conner Joyce also ran for 134 yards and score once for Emmetsburg (3-3 overall and 3-1 District).

Brandon Visser fired a 16-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for Unity Christian (1-5 overall and 1-3 District) and a two-point conversion run by Josh Dragstra pulled the Knights within 14-8 late in the second quarter.

BOYDEN-HULL/ROCK VALLEY 55, CHEROKEE 6: J.T. Van;t Hull rushed for 112 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the No. 2 Nighthawks to a win over the Braves in Class 2A District 1 game played in Cherokee, Iowa Friday.

B-H/RV had 397 yards rushing offense as a team and improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in District. Cherokee falls to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in District.

HARRIS-LAKE PARK 36, WEST BEND-MALLARD 26: Bryce Perkins completed 14 of 17 passes for 237 yards and five touchdowns as Harris-Lake Park (5-1) held off West Bend-Mallard in an eight-man contest in Lake Park on Friday.

Trevor Gunderson returned to the field and caught five passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns while Dalton Nicks had two touchdown grabs and Bret Sohn one.

Danie Riesenberg had seven catches for 172 yards and a touchdown for West Bend-Mallard (3-3).


PIERCE 50, WAYNE 34: The Bluejays came back from a halftime deficit to down the No. 5 Blue Devils in a C1-5 District game played in Pierce, Nebraska Friday.

Collin Tinger ran for four touchdowns and Brett Tinker scored twice to help Pierce (3-3) rally from a 28-20 halftime deficit. The win prevented Wayne (5-1) from registering its first win over the Bluejays since 1995.

Beau Bowers fired a pair of touchdown passes for Wayne.

PONCA 28, BATTLE CREEK 20: The No. 2 Indians stayed unbeaten with a C2-4 District win over the Braves in a game played in Battle Creek, Nebraska Friday.

Ponca took a 22-0 halftime lead on a pair of Logan Kingsbury TD passes and a 64-yard run for a score by Dalton Tremayne.

Kingsbury fired a 65-yard pass to Michael Hegge and a 46-yard strike to Jayde Reid for touchdowns in the first half.

Battle Creek (2-4) scored on a pair of runs by Weston Johnson and a 76-yard TD pass from Ty Heimes to Stone Kraft.

WALTHILL 55, ST. EDWARD 32: Tavion Brown rushed for four touchdowns as Walthill moved to 4-1 on the season.

Romello Porter threw three touchdowns passes and added a rushing touchdown for the BluJays.

Porter connected with Kellan Whiteeyes for touchdowns of 34 and 18 and Kain Miller for 24 yards.

EP-J 30, BERESFORD 14: Logan Donelan had 254 yards of total offense and two touchdowns as the Elk Point-Jefferson football team defeated Beresford on Friday in Elk Point.

Donelan completed 11 of 16 passes for 196 yards and threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jared Merkley. Donelan also ran for 58 yards on nine carries and scored on a 3-yard run for EP-J (2-4). Merkley caught six passes for 145 yards.

Carter Kennedy had a 3-yard touchdown run for Beresford (0-6) and Hunter Borah scored on a 2-yard run.
