TUCSON, Airz. – The Briar Cliff baseball team swept William Penn 11-0 and 8-5 here Tuesday, remaining unbeaten in the Tucson Invitational at 6-0. BCU has a 9-4 overall record.
Brogan Secrist collected three hits in four at-bats in the first game, scoring four runs. Brady Harpenau and Jacob Hom added two hits apiece, with Hom driving in three. Tyler Williams allowed one hit and struck out three in five innings.
The Chargers scored five runs in the first inning en route to the 8-5 victory in the second game. Harpenau had three hits and knocked in a pair, while Secrist and Nick Robinson tacked on two hits apiece.
Luke Lindsey, Jory Boynton, Dalen Blair and Nicholas Cole each saw mound action.
PITTSBURG STATE 12-10, WAYNE STATE 2-3: The Gorillas ran their record to 13-5 with a sweep of the Wildcats in a sweep of a college baseball twin bill Tuesday afternoon.
Brad Kinsey limited Wayne State to a pair of hits in four innings of work in the opener to get the win. He walked three and struck out seven batters. Ethan Vanderpool allowed two runs in three innings of relief work to pick up his first save of the season.
Andrew Vogelbaugh doubled, homered and drove in four runs in the first game for Pittsburg State. The Wildcats avoided being shut out in the first game with two runs in the seventh inning, Jake Lorenzini's two-out double scored Kyle Thompson and Colin Chick.
The nightcap was a 4-3 game in favor of the Gorillas before the hosts scored six times to put the game away. The Wildcats (2-8) scored three runs in the fourth inning. Lorenzini doubled and scored on a Andrew Hanson's double to center field. Bryce Bisenius later laced an RBI single that scored Hanson with the second run while Travis Miller had a sacrifice fly that scored Tanner Simons with the third run.
