FAYETTE, Mo. -- Briar Cliff took 2 of 3 games from No. 24 Central Methodist (Mo.) over the past two days closing it out with an 18-9 victory on Monday.
The Chargers pounded out 14 hits in the game led by Nick Robinson's 3-for-4 effort. Briar Cliff scored five runs in the first inning thanks to Tyler Vanderham's grand slam and the Chargers added seven more runs in the third. Sawyer Olson hit a grand slam in that inning to complete the scoring.
Jacob Wesselmann got the win for Briar Cliff as he allowed one run and five hits over seven innings while striking out seven and did not issue a walk.
Briar Cliff is now 3-4 on the season.
MORNINGSIDE 8-12, BENEDICTINE 2-7: Morningside swept Benedictine (Kan.) in a doubleheader in Atchison, Kansas on Monday.
The Mustangs broke the first game open with a six-run sixth inning. Mitch Kellogg had a two-RBI single in the frame, Derek Clayton tripled to plate two more and Dylan Mersola drove in the other run.
Morningside used the long ball to win game two as Nate DeChaine, Joe Genoways and Jordan Pierce all hit home runs. Genoways drive in five runs as teh Mustangs had 12 hits in the game.
Cody Selig got the win for the Mustangs as he allowed one run in four innings of work with four strikeouts. Morningside is now 4-4 on the season.
MIDAMERICA NAZARENE 4-6, NORTHWESTERN 3-0: MidAmerica Nazarene scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game one. Isaac Geisinger had a two-RBI walk-off single to cap the win.
Michael Callahan had two hits for Northwestern and starting pitcher Victor Mena was solid for the Red Raiders allowing one run on four hits in four innings.
Jordan Dailey pitched all seven innings and held the Red Raiders to just four hits and struck out nine in the finale.
Northwestern is 1-5 on the season.
