TUSCON, Ariz. -- Briar Cliff won its fourth straight game at the Tucson Invite with a doubleheader sweep 17-3 and 2-1 over Presentation Collge on Monday.
The Chargers had a 6-3 lead going into the seventh inning of the opener when Briar Cliff exploded for 10 runs.
Sawyer Olson had two hits and Logan Adam added two hits and drove in three.
Zayne Mowen worked five innings and struck out five, walked two and allowed six hits for the win.
The Chargers scored single runs in the second and third innings of the second game and pitcher Jacob Wesselmann made it stand up. Wesselmann went 6.1 innings, allowed five hits, one run in the seventh inning and struck out two. Cole Nicholas worked the final two-thirds of an inning for a save.
The Chargers scored on a groundout and a sacrifice fly.
Briar Cliff is now 7-4 on the season.
MORNINGSIDE 4, THE MASTER'S 1: Three Morningside pitchers combined to throw a five-hitter, walk three and strike out six to lead the Mustangs past No. 14 The Master's on Monday.
Richard Mitchell worked 5.2 innings to get the win as he allowed one run and stuck out one. Jared Sorenson went 2.1 winnings and struck out four and Elliot Conover got the save throwing the final inning.
The Mustangs had seven hits in the game and got two apiece from Nate DeChaine and Jordan Pierce.
Morningside is now 14-9.
BRIAR CLIFF WINS TWO: The Briar Cliff baseball posted blowout victories in in its games at the Tucson Invite on Sunday. The Chargers downed Wabash 15-2 in the first game and pummeling Simpson 13-0 in game two.
Briar Cliff scored in five of the seven innings against Wabash with six runs in the first. Arnulfo Gutierrez had the big hit of the first inning with a double to center field to score Tyler Vanderham and Jacob Hom. In the second inning, when BCU tacked on four more runs, it was Brogan Secrist belting a triple to right field to bring in Gutierrez and Rodney Scarver.
Nick Robinson led the Cliff at the dish with three hits, followed by Brady Harpenau, Gutierrez and Logan Adam with two hits each. Andrew Stover saw the majority of the action on the mound with six innings pitched. He had four strikeouts, two walks, five hits and two runs allowed.
The Chargers scored 10 runs in the first three inning against Simpson. Hom drove in the first two runs of the game with a single to left to score Sawyer Olson and Robinson. Olson then blasted a triple in the third inning to get two RBI of his own, bringing home Peyton Griesert and Harpenau.
Matt Wesselmann had another strong performance on the mound, going six innings and improving to 3-0 this year. He fanned four batters and walked one to go with five hits and no runs allowed.
