POINT LOOKOUT, Missouri -- The Morningside baseball team split a pair of games with Ozarks, winning the opener 9-8 and falling 6-2 on Sunday.
The Mustangs had 12 hits in the first game led by Jordan Pierce who had two hits including one of three home runs hit by Morningside. Nate DeChaine and Derrick Johnson also had homers.
Cameron Wagner and Elliot Conover worked the final four innings for Morningside and allowed three runs, stuck out three and did not issue a walk.
The victory was the first for the Mustangs on the season, but Ozarks came back behind J.D. Payne's two-hit, five-RBI perforamnce.
Dylan Mersola had three of Morningside's six hits in the game.
The Mustangs are now 1-3 on the season.
AVILA 5, BRIAR CLIFF 4: Avila used a five-run fourth inning to hold off a late Briar Cliff rally and get the win in Avila, Missouri on Sunday.
Briar Cliff had seven hits in the game, led by Peyton Griesert's two while Sawyer Olson drove in two runs.
AVILA 4, BRIAR CLIFF 1: Avila's Brandon Chandler had two hits, a double and a triple and drove in two to help down Briar Cliff on Sunday.
Jacob Wesselmann gave up seven hits, four runs and struck out two in five innings of work for the Chargers
Briar Cliff is now 1-3 on the season.
REGIS 23, WAYNE STATE 7: Wayne State took a 4-0 lead in the first with two-run home runs from Tanner Simons and Andrew Hanson. Regis responded with seven runs in the bottom of the first and never slowed down.
REGIS 4, WAYNE STATE 1: Wayne State was held to four hits in the loss. Tanner Simons was 2-for-3 with a double and scored Wayne State’s lone run.
The Wildcats are now 0-4 on the season.
VITERBO 3, NORTHWESTERN 0: Kyle Gilbertson pitched a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as the Viterbo baseball team defeated Northwestern 3-0 on Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
Matt Martin, A.J. Nitzschke and Michael Callahan each had one hit for Northwestern (1-3).
UCCS 6, WAYNE STATE 5: Zach Hall hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs as the UC-Colorado Springs baseball team defeated Wayne State 6-5 on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Tanner Simons went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Wayne State (0-1). Bryce Bisenius drove in one run.
USSC 16, WAYNE STATE 4: Bryan Chapin went 3-for-4 from the plate with five RBIs as the UC-Colorado Springs baseball team defeated Wayne State 16-4 on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Tanner Simons and Andrew Hanson both had doubles for Wayne State (0-2).
