KISSIMMEE, Fla. | Iowa improved its baseball record to 2-0 Saturday with a 8-6 win over Oakland in a game played as part of the Diamond 9 Sunshine State Classic Saturday afternoon.
Former Bishop Heelan prep Tyler Cropley had a two-run home run in the sixth inning that broke a 6-6 tie and plated the final runs of the game. Robert Neustrom also had an RBI double in the Hawkeyes' five-run first inning and a sacrifice fly in the earlier sixth frame to deadlock the score.
On Friday evening, Ben Norman hit a walk-off two-run single to help Iowa open its baseball season with a 4-3 win over Toledo.
The Hawkeyes trailed 3-1 in the eighth inning before Neustrom hit a solo home run to right field to cut the Toledo lead to one. The former North High standout had two hits while Cropley drove in the Hawkeyes' other run with a fourth-inning single that scored Neustrom.
