CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa | Coe scored 22 unanswered points late in the first half and early in the second half to break open a close contest on its way to a 78-65 win over Buena Vista in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game Wednesday.
With the game tied at 19-19 in the first half, the Beavers were held scoreless over the final 6:46 before intermission while Coe scored 17 points to lead 36-19 at the break. The Kohawks also scored the first five points of the second frame before the Beavers finally broke the run on a free throw by David Jeffries with 17:11 to play.
Coe shot 61.2 percent from the field for the game (30-49) and had four players score in double figures. David Jeffries had a game-high 15 points and Billy Sparks 13 for the Beavers.
Buena Vista (14-5 overall and 7-3 IIAC) dropped from a tie for the IIAC lead with the loss. The win was just the third in 10 IIAC games for Coe, which is 7-12 overall.
