OMAHA | Alyssa Laudato scored 19 points while Tyler Sumpter came off the bench for 16 while leading College of Saint Mary to an 80-69 Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s basketball win over Briar Cliff Wednesday night.
Laudato and Sumpter combined for nine of the Flames’ 13 3-point baskets. Lacey Knudsen added 15 points for a team that led from start to finish.
Briar Cliff (10-19, 7-12 GPAC) limited its opponent to 34.8 percent shooting. However, the Chargers shot 27.6 percent while trailing 40-23 at halftime.
Coach Mike Power’s squad, paced in the defeat by reserve Alyssa Carley’s 16 points, shot 56.3 percent in the second half, but it wasn’t enough.
Johanna Vaske scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Reserve Taylor Vasa had 13 points for the Chargers, which will host Dordt Saturday.
