BELLEVUE, Neb. | Johanna Vaske nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds while leading Briar Cliff’s women’s basketball team to their third straight win Monday night, 60-58 over Bellevue at Lozier Athletic Center.

Taylor Wagner added 12 points and seven rebounds for Briar Cliff (5-3), which is 2-0 in the all-time series against the Bruins. Coach Mike Power’s squad outscored the hostesses 23-17 in the fourth quarter.

Elexis Martinez scored 15 points for Bellevue, which got a game-tying three-point basket from Shayla Dean (10 pints) that made it 55-55 with 3:32 left in the game. After trading baskets on the next two possessions, Briar Cliff took the lead for keeps on the last of Marquel Harlan’s three three-pointers with 1:57 left.

Briar Cliff committed 23 turnovers and was outrebounded 34-29. However, the Chargers made eight threes, four more than the Bruins.

Briar Cliff will play Valley City State at 4 p.m. Friday at the Dordt Classic.
